Hyundai Equus/Genesis

We have all known Hyundai as the small car maker from Korea (South to be specific)

But in the mid 90′, Hyundai suddenly started challenging the likes of Honda and Nissan and Toyota and the world took notice of the Sonata which was now being marketed the world over

And then something happened : The rise of Kia (that’s the sister company of Hyundai) and thus Hyundai made their mark

So, as a new born Korean giant (its the single largest car company in South Korea and very trusted in South-East Asia) was on to take the European and North American companies head-on

And the first step was the Hyundai Equus to take on the likes of Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Lexus

The Equus / Genesis (as called in North America) was launched in 1998 in Korea and the more important 2nd generation in 2009 as a global luxury car

Take this fact: Hyundai was the only major global car manufacturer to grow during the last 2 years consistently with Equus/Genesis clocking more than 50,000 units.

Looks: Very commanding, its huge – more than 5 meters long and if you forget for a moment that its a Hyundai, u’ll find it quite good

Engine:- Two awesome options on offer

Tau V8 -4.6L , producing 375 hp (280 kW) at 6,500 rpm and 333lb.ft at 3,500 rpm

The Lambda 3.8L V6 producing 290 hp (216 kW) at 6,200 rpm and 264 lb·ft at 4,500 rpm

Appeal:- Overall the car, with all the luxury features and for a great price is a winner. The new generation which was revealed at the New York Auto Show in April 2010 was almost the show stopper with everyone taking notice of the fine craftsmanship the Koreans have shown

Bottomline : Hyundai has proved its intentions and is going head on with its cars with the Equus/Genesis leading the pack
